The information we collect

We collect information about you for four reasons:

  4. To inform you about special offers, promotions, and any other related matter we think may be of interest to you.

  1. a) Directly from you—when you register with this website, when you place an order, when you subscribe to our newsletter, or when you communicate with us using email, either directly or by using the contact form.
  2. b) Through your use of our website—from the data recorded by the website and stored locally on your computer through the use of cookies (this allows us to recognise you and your preferred settings and saves you from re-entering information on return visits to the website) and your IP address (used to monitor your usage of the website).

When you register and/or place an order from The Assay House, we will collect the following information about you:

Your name, your address, your phone number, your email address, and information about your preferences and online purchasing of minerals from our website. 

IMPORTANT—The Assay House does not collect or store any credit card, debit card, or bank account information. All payment transactions are handled by carefully selected third parties—please make yourself familiar with their own T&C and privacy policies. 

What we do with your information

The information and data we collect and hold about you may be used in the following ways:

  1. to process your order and provide you with after-sales customer service,
  2. to deal with any enquiries from you,
  3. to continuously improve our website and service based on the requirements and preferences of you and other website users,
  4. to analyse the most popular pages and the usage of the website,
  5. to provide you with information about us, our mineral specimens, upcoming events, and any other relevant mineral/collecting-related information that we believe may be of interest to you.

  2. Request correction of your personal data that is incorrect.
  3. Request erasure of your personal data.
  4. Object to processing of your personal data.
  5. Request restriction of processing your personal data.

If you wish to exercise any of the rights set out above, please contact us in writing.

We may need to request specific information from you to help us confirm your identity and ensure your right to access your personal data (or to exercise any of your other rights). This is a security measure to ensure that personal data is not disclosed to any person who has no right to receive it. We may also contact you to ask you for further information in relation to your request to speed up our response. 

We try to respond to all legitimate requests within 14 working days. Occasionally it may take us longer than 30 days if your request is particularly complex or you have made a number of requests. In this case, we will notify you and keep you updated.

Cancelling your account

You can cancel your account at any time. You can do so by:

  1. Asking us to close your account by contacting us, or,
  2. Deleting your account from within your personal user page of the website.

IMPORTANT - please consider carefully whether you wish to cancel your account because this action is permanent and irreversible - all your account and purchase information will be lost. If you wish to continue to use the Assay House website, you will have to open a new account.

Disclosing your information to others

We may disclose the information we collect to third parties in order for us to carry out certain activities, such as postage, handling payments, monitoring how customers use the website, and sending emails on our behalf.

Third parties will not be allowed to use your personal information for their own purposes. Please make yourself familiar with the terms and conditions and privacy policies of these third parties.

We may also disclose your Personal Information to others where we are required to do so by law, to prevent and/or detect crime, and for credit reference purposes. We will never disclose your personal information to any third parties for purposes such as their own marketing or mailing lists.

Emails

When registering on our website, placing an order, or filling in the subscriber form, you will be automatically added to our email list and receive the latest news and information about our specimens and offers. 

Unsubscribing

You can unsubscribe from receiving emails from us at any time. Should you wish to stop receiving our emails, you can tell us in two ways:

  1. Scroll to the bottom of the latest Assay House email you received and click the “Unsubscribe” link.
  2. Send an email directly or via our contact page that includes the email address you wish to unsubscribe from our email list.

Passwords

When you register with us or create an order, you will create a login using your email address, username, and chosen password. Your password will then be linked to your email address and personal account.

You are responsible for any use of your password and your login account. You can reset the password at any time by accessing your account page. You are responsible for remembering your password securely—we have no access to user passwords.

If you have forgotten or lost your password, you will need to request a new password, which can be done through the customer login/registration page.

Security of your information

We have put in place appropriate security measures to prevent your personal data from being accidentally lost, used, or accessed in an unauthorised way, altered, or disclosed.

In addition, we limit access to your personal data to those employees, agents, contractors, and other third parties who have a business need to know. They will only process your personal data on our instructions, and they are subject to a duty of confidentiality.

We have put in place procedures to deal with any suspected personal data breach and will notify you and any applicable regulator of a breach where we are legally required to do so.
