Quartz on Hematite

Dozens of terminated, pyramidal crystals of Quartz, coloured red by a thin layer of iron oxides. These give the crystals a very attractive orange-brown hue, especially when well-lit. The interior of the crystals is white, a feature easily seen at the edges of the specimen. The whole grouping lies on a matrix of tightly packed specular Hematite. This is very lustrous, crystalline, and shimmers in metallic silver and blue. A very interesting specimen from a rare location.
